The Kerala Orthodox wedding is a sacred liturgy steeped in centuries of tradition. For our guests unfamiliar with the rite, here is a brief guide to what you will witness:
The priest blesses two crowns and places them upon the bride and groom — symbolising the couple as king and queen of a new household, crowned in martyrdom of self for one another.
The groom ties the Minnu — a small gold pendant on a thread drawn from the Manthrakodi — around the bride's neck. This is the binding moment of the marriage.
The groom drapes the Manthrakodi (a sacred sari) over the bride's head, marking the union of their two families.
Blessings exchanged with family and close friends to mark the betrothal.
The sacred liturgy of marriage in the Indian Orthodox tradition.
Lunch, toasts and celebration with all our beloved guests.
